Philosophy of Education
Carol R Davis
Educating young scholars and expanding their views and knowledge is my passion. I am drawn to the rewards and challenges of teaching. I believe that effective learning takes place when effective teaching is put in place. This is why I chose to be an educator.
Children that walk into my classroom may have different background knowledge whether the difference is cultural, lingual, or economical. This is why I believe that I need to evaluate where my students are academically, meet them where they are and expand on their prior knowledge to get them to mastery.
I believe that students need to feel supported. With mutual respect and love, students can take risks within the walls of the safety in order to succeed and excel in society. Often, children feel pressured to be perfect, but I truly trust that kids need to feel safe trying new things in order to master a given skill.
Classroom management is undeniably one of the main challenges of teaching. In my classroom, children will be entirely involved in making the rules. Therefore, more likely to follow them and own responsibility in the actions they take.
Benjamin Franklin once said “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” This principle is the reason I trust that modeling combined with active learning is the way to truly get my students to deeper applicable knowledge.
Last but not least, I will ensure that every child that walks into my classroom feels safe, loved, supported and welcome.
